About

The Shoreswood Archives seek to collate a number of undiscovered works of installation art that explore the relationship between objects, memory, and perception. These works and their artists, for one reason or another, remain out of the public eye, yet they paint a fascinating picture of our world and histories through the lens of the mundane.

Our archive is aimed at individuals who are curious about narratives, history, and art. It houses a variety of visual and sonic materials, including five core installations that delve into the subjects of Umbrellas, Pigeons, Desks, Doorbells, and Collections.

Process

Each work showcased in the Shoreswood Archives has been meticulously selected to highlight an underrepresented facet of this artistic field. Our archivists undertook extensive research to find and locate these pieces, ensuring they represent a diverse range of mediums, eras, and sensibilities. Despite their diversity, these works coalesce at similar thematic junctures.

A core mission of the Shoreswood Archives is to provide a comprehensive understanding of these works and their artists. To achieve this, we put great effort into sourcing and recreating different versions of these works. We also provide additional materials such as working drafts, reviews, and source inspirations. These supplementary contexts breathe new life into the works, offering fresh perspectives and deeper understanding.

Themes

While each work tells its own story, common themes such as loss, entropy, connection, nostalgia, and playfulness unify our collections. The centrality of objects in these narratives invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the world around them.

We hope visitors are driven by curiosity and rewarded with the depth and detail of each collection. Our aim is for the stories within the archive to resonate with and enrich the personal experiences of our audience.
